I have learned so much about myself and my “look” since Rubbish was established. It's been exciting to see the changes and, no doubt, the improvements! I think I've finally arrived at a place that is truly an accurate and creative reflection of me!
.....in all its wonderful shapes and sizes....from the beautiful pitchers to the incredible punchbowls and if you haven't seen a cake stand, trust me it will be love at first sight! Mostly English and made in the late 1800's this pottery has survived! Each piece telling its own story. To me, it's amazing!
.....how fun is a collection of something, anything....either common because they are all alike or common in a theme. A collection is so fun to layer....carefully placing each piece on an old ironstone platter, a cute tray or all stacked up in a vintage aquarium. Watch faces, a stack of old wooden bread boards and some vintage laundry pins....the possibilities are endless!
.....especially vintage flashcards! I was a terrible student so maybe I'm trying to redeem myself! I've always had a fascination with words. I see them abstractly as art, some words are just funny and there's always the meaning. I have them sprinkled all over my house. Reminders in the midst of a hectic life to "laugh" or "be" "happy". How cute are "Mr" and "Mrs" on a wonderful ironstone platter or "splash" on an old bus step, next to a tub with a playful duck! My favorite has to be those I carefully placed on my husband’s nightstand....."love" "always".
....whether it's too big or too small...it's unexpected. It always makes me smile! An oversized fork and spoon measuring 21" each, a 54" tennis racket lounging on an old hutch or a 4" doll chair. Whatever it is, as long as it's not the "right" size.....
Me, shopping Warrenton! This picture always makes me laugh (I mean seriously how could it not!) and always reminds me to just be me. Whatever you collect, whatever you buy, whatever you fill your home with.....may it always be the things you love.....
